Scarlette is the most unconventional heroine ever created in fictinional history.
She is an out and out flirt always seeking attention from men with her deceptively feminine charms. She has an absolute faith in her charms, believing there is no man who could resist her once she has her eyes on him. She uses her charms ruthlessly.
You almost feel angry with her for being so cruel. She is like a wild mare bursting with spirit. Her heart is full of love for Ashley who unfortunately marries Melanie.
She moves between marriages. Motherhood to her is something to be born with. Her association with Rhett brings out the real spirit within her. Rhett knows her for what she truly is. He sa finally met a woman with a spirit equal to his own. Scarlette faces the tragedies in her life with amazing strength. She has no scruples in taking a life when its a matter of survival. When her farm '' Tara '' is in trouble she has no qualms about selling her body to Rhett. After war Rhett is the only rich person left in town. Rhett is in love with Scarlette but afraid to admit it to her, knowing she would use it
against him.Theirs is a marriage of convenience. For all her headstrong ways
scarlette is a fool in ways of the heart. She is after Ashley only because she cannot have him. She is blind to what she has going on between herself and Rhett. She finds in Rhett a companion who is her equal, who infuriates and aggravates her. After getting pregnant with his child she starts feeling something for him. This is the first child she wants to have. Rhett adores his daughter who is so much like Scarlette in spirit. After her death there is a deep chasm between them that neither can cross. After Melanie''s death Scarlette is free to pursue Ashley. But she realises she is in love with Rhett. For the first time poverty does''nt scare her. When she confronts Rhett with her love Rhett admits that he loved her but it had waned out. Scarlette with admiring dignity and poise let''s him go. After all no man can resist her once she had her eyes on him. She deals with this crisis as she had dealt with others in her life. Her philosophy is a simple line, "After all, tomorrow is another day."
