On the news from a Manchester, New Hampshire television station it was noted a pair of young men were taken for a ride on Ebay. This can hardly be construed as the fault of the webpage itself. Like anything in life, the buyer must be beware of such online transactions. I prefer to try on shoes before buying them. I particularily do not trust most catalogues as they show pretty items on thier pages. When the final product arrives, it seems to have lost its glamour and cost me several dollars in postage and handling.
Online purchases are nothing more than electronic magazines filled with colorful choices for your credit cards. Not all those delicious treats to sate our appetite for life are negative. Many are truly legitimate. In fact the vast majority are. So how does one tell the difference?
For starters, if an article of clothing says it is a size five, maybe that is in that style. For the buyer though a sixe six is more correct. Only after receiving the not as blue as it was on the monitor and the wrong size to boot, it must be returned at the buyer's expense.
In the case of the Ebay purchasers, the sellers reneged on delivery after receipt of payment. One young man bought an engagement ring from an honest sounding person. The money was sent as directed. Suddenly there was no ring. There was no delivery. And adding salt to the wound, the purveyor can not be found either.
The second instance was the purchase of an automobile. These types of transactions every day online. Tremendous amounts of dollars change hands without a glich. In this deal the buyer mailed four thousand dollars as told. All was well in Camelot until, yes, you guessed it, there was no car. Once more another hopeful deal went unfulfilled.
Does this mean one should not buy anything online at all? The answer is a resounding No.
Know who you are buying from in every possible way. Insure the seller is not out only to rob you of your hard earned cash. When in doubt, research the deal and when in doubt, Don't Buy It!
It is so insulting to the countless reputable dealers on Ebay to have to be smeared by actions of a dishonest few. It is equally gratifying to know that those honest people do exist to satisfy our need for things we really don't need but truly do want. Keep up the good work Ebay.
